Yahoo Messenger Invisible Detector - Checking Invisible Status of Yahoo Messenger
[Note: Yahoo closed down the ways we can change our nickname, if you have a nickname that been edited or changed in the past before yahoo has closed down the edit profile and nickname, you still able to use it in chat room: ASCII or Invisible Nickname] Nickname almost like a call’s name. In the messenger service, especially in Yahoo! Messenger, nickname is like your called name. Nickname can be changed as many as you wish. There are no limitation of changing your nickname. In chat room (if you using official chat client of YM), your nickname will appear in the talk chat room, only by clicking your nickname or hovering the mouse on the nickname your real identities (username or ID) can be seen by others. In Instant Messenger, in Messenger List, nickname represent the name of yours!
Remember in Messenger List of your friends, your nickname not in your controls. Your friend can change the nickname of yours whatever and whenever they want to.
To change nickname of yours, You can make simple steps that we given to you below. Note: this only will change the nickname appear in chat room not in Messenger List of your friends. There are three ways to change the nickname of your IDs. First through chat room yahoo messenger ( only available in Yahoo Messenger version 8):
Chat Room >> Chat >> Change My Nickname…
Unfortunately, this ways of changing nickname sometime did not support ASCII character. We, personally, not recommend you to change nickname through this ways. The second, you can change by using change nickname software. But, its not the right times to give you that such of changing nickname software.
And the last, you can change nickname by using your account editor. Follow our instructions below:
Yahoo! Messenger >> Messenger >> My Profiles >> Create/Edit My Profiles
If you see Yahoo Messenger Message, “Do you want to be signed in automatically when you click a link to Yahoo! web site?” just answer Yes. Within a second, you will face your account profiles editor at your Internet browser, Please choose one of your ID ( If you create two or more Alias ID or Public ID), or type the url address: http://profiles.yahoo.com/username and login with username password, then do these steps:
Edit >> Edit Profile Information >> Nickname >> Save Changes
Now your new nickname has been changed! Remember even though you have new nickname, the nickname of yours in your friend messenger list still remain the old nickname, unless they change it into new one.
New Ways to Change Yahoo Messenger Nickname
Just login to your Yahoo Account (use login username of your desired alias ID or primary ID of Yahoo) then. Just visit:
You will see a Page like this:
After that, click the Continue Button at the right of the page, and you will see a page like this:
Now finish your edit Profiles. Display name has the same meaning with Nickname (Display nickname only used in Mail not in Chat Room). Happy New Nickname!!
Note: You can access you old Yahoo Profiles (Nickname, Name, Sex, Age, etc) using this simple trick. Just Login to Yahoo and then open url below in your web browser (thank to glytch for this trick):

If all of the tricks above still not work try this one:
First Login to Yahoo with your Yahoo ID then go to:

If you unable to do all the tricks that we gave you above, just try to use Yahoo Nickname Changer below.

If you got any error from the software above just visit viprasys.org. find the answer from there. you may need to install missing file (dll/ocx) or need to register them before you run it.
Note: mr.phils suggests us to use korean profile to edit the nickname.

for now i can’t change my nickname because yahoo have changed its format, you can’t edit your nickname now, its yahoo beta, and thats a big problem

Just to let you guys know, the new Yahoo! profiles don’t actually let you change your nicknames in the room. It’ll only show up on your profile. Luckily, you can access the old version of your profile and change it there! Simply log into yahoo under your desired username, then go to http://p1.pf.re4.yahoo.com/insert_your_user_name_here and you’ll be able to edit it like the good old days. Cheers!

@ae.xhin04: you can not change the nickname on the others messenger buddy list, the nickname only change when you are in chat room of yahoo messenger.

Hey. I tried changing my Display Name in the new profile, it still displays as my ID. I tried going to the link to the old profile but the “Edit My Profile” link doesn’t work.
Is there any other way to change nicknames?

Yes, it’s available for a free download, and its an executable (.exe) file.
I’ve mentioned the error I get when I run it, above.

The reason that the link no longer works is because someone posted the link in the Yahoo Answers, and Yahoo deleted it. The new site is:

I have changed my profile to Korean.It is no different from English profile at all other than the language.I tried to change my display name but it had no effect on my nickname in chat rooms.
Can anyone please elaborate on how to change nickname in chat rooms using the so called Korean profile?

yes. change your preferred content to taiwan ??. edit your nickname ??. no ASCll allowed, only numbers,letters and those you can find on your keyboard.
just select any location and postcode. this will not affect your location shown in the chat rooms.
you can only create/edit a nickname for your main id. no nicknames for your sub ids or aliases.

These links are the exact steps you must take in order to change your nicknames on Yahoo! Chat. There are some characters you cannot use though. Just remember that.

Argh! i tried what melody said, at first it worked but it only allows limited chars. Then I tried it again accordingly but then it didn’t work anymore; ….i’ve been on this for almost an hour and it’s making me “high blood”. I would suggest not attempting to use special characters. Use normal text, rather. I would think you can use almost any character that is on your keyboard layout that does not require using the Number Pad.

Yahoo! deleted the original access to Yahoo!Chat nicknames - the reason? I’m not quite sure, myself. The fact remains that this is, so far, the only way to change Yahoo!Chat nicknames.
To everyone else who is having a hard time changing their nicknames, just try and follow the steps carefully. Make sure you haven’t forgotten to do anything, as that can easily happen.

I just checked the steps myself. The link is not broken. Where it says 30 in the drop down menu, that is where you must select US English and then okay. I’m not sure why it does not work for you. As long as you stay logged in after saving your nickname, and then clicking the link, it should work.
